Why I Finally Left Facebook
There was a brick wall, and I ran right into it. Expiration date arrived.
Over the decades, amongst my relocations and travels, switching industries and while experimenting and finding myself - I have made a lot of friends and acquaintances over the years. Theater friends. Theater colleagues. Band mates. Band friends. Family. Extended blood family. High school friends. Every nook and cranny you could think of of society, and I’ve been friends with. From far left socialist democrats to independents to republicans to trump supporters.
Why you ask?
I grew up as a military brat and a student leader; and my parents raised me to love thy neighbor - despite if you agree with the person or not. Throughout several political administrations since the year 2000, I have given those around me the benefit of the doubt and to let everyone express themselves - whether that’s your art or your political view. It might be the elder millennial in me, but it is what it is.
There has been a new leaf that has turned for me in 2026, and I’ve had enough!
There’s family and friends on the far right who is brainwashed with illegitimate facts on like everything, including ignoring bills that hurt not just me, but several of my friends, but still choose to say that they love me unconditionally. I find it disgusting and morally wrong that trump supporters are posting ill will social media posts towards people who are peacefully protesting, especially coming from family members. Then there’s my friends on the far left who are basically have the same mindset, but in the opposite direction.
It’s all fucked up, and I can not consume that any longer.
On Saturday I found myself shit posting to try to do my part. Daily, I get the message from people that states, “If you’re not posting, then you’re part of the problem”.
At the end of the day what I find most problematic of all of this is the topic of mental health. Every time someone is murdered, or there is a mass shooting, we immediately start to talk about ‘its all about mental health, we should work on that’, which only lasts for a few days. Not everyone is equipped to speak up, go to a protest, or even tell friends and family left from right.
There are people who are leaders, then there are people who are followers. You can’t force someone to do something if their heart is not in the right place.
